Below we give a short list of the main objectives of each of the priorities plus, in each case, details of the results achieved during 2009.
Eco-efficiency and climate change
A commitment to the environment, to reducing environmental impact and to developing the ability to create more and better sustainable products.
Development of the programme SOS CO2 Action which includes specific undertakings and initiatives in offices and production centres:
In March, 2009, SOS Group subscribed to the United Nations' Caring for Climate initiative, as another way of demonstrating its commitment to the fight against climate change. The international initiative Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), presented its 2009 report in November. The 85 largest companies quoted on the Spanish Stock Exchange were invited to participate in this second edition. Among the 36 companies that voluntarily submitted themselves to the analysis, was SOS Group.
In 2009 the certification of the System of Environmental Management at the Alcolea (Cordoba) plant was renewed in accordance with the UNE- EN ISO 14001:2004 standard. Since 2009, SOS Group has had one more factory whose system of environmental management conforms to the UNE- EN ISO 14001:2004 standard, namely the oil production plant in Inveruno (Italy).
In 2009, the introduction of the on-line indicator management tool SOSMA was extended to the olive oil activity, in the form of the factory at Dos Hermanas (Seville).
Attracting and retaining talent
Instituting an organisation capable of attracting the best workers in the sector by means of culture based on individual development and a two-way commitment between the employee and the organisation.
In spite of slight increase in the accident rate, there is still a notable difference in comparison with the indices in the food sector as a whole, published by the Instituto Nacional de Seguridad e Higiene en el Trabajo (National Institute for Hygiene and Safety at Work) for 2008, which show that as regards frequency and incidence, the Organization is 46% below those indices, 53% below the index of seriousness and 16% below the index of average period of absence.

There is an increasing induction of women into administrative positions, now reaching 26.7% (9.1% in managerial posts) at Group level, and 22.1% (6.1% in managerial posts) in Spain. A lady director has joined the new Internal Audit Department, reporting to the Chairman's office. Positive discrimination is being applied to facilitate the promotion of women.
In 2009, 5.96% of the staff was promoted, of whom 67.70% were women and 32.30% were men.
The organization continues its efforts towards honoring its commitment to encouraging the integration of disabled people, and their direct employment, so as to reach the target of 2%. This rate has been increased from 0.95% by 2006 to 1.88% by 2009.
Managing reputational risk
Facing up to the social and environmental problems of our time
During 2009, SOS Group worked with the following objectives:
The Company has a recently-formed Internal Audit Department, whose Director joined in December, 2009.
Development and implementation of a system for managing the supply chain. This program consists of the following phases: Initial assessment of the risk, Application of a self-evaluation system, Drawing up of a risk map, A programme of action to stimulate responsible practices in critical areas. This program was affected by the Organization's situation, so that in 2009 it was not possible to finalize all the activities of the second phase. It had been intended to finish, during 2009, the development of the computerized tool used to complete the questionnaire and to consolidate and analyze the data ready for the next phase of the project. This was one of the projects that was suspended temporarily, in order to address other priorities in the systems area.
Values of the Mediterranean diet

To turn the organisation into a byword in all things relating to the Mediterranean diet and using the concept as a starting point not only for the product portfolio but also for the management model.
Pursuing our line of work to develop healthy products that are also adapted to the demands of present-day society, changes were made in two directions: one focused on the exploitation of the value of the traditional products, and the other, orientated towards research into the development of new ones.
During visits to its installations, SOS Group finds other ways to promote Mediterranean culture. In 2009, one may highlight the visits to the oils factory at Alcolea (Córdoba) and to the shops.
