Our commitment to nutrition proceeds from the assumption of a “moral obligation” from our position of leadership in the food sector. It is based on support for projects that contribute to promote scientific knowledge about the nutritional qualities of foodstuffs and their relationship with certain diseases.
In the SOS Group, we defend the idea of a healthy and balanced diet from our position as producers of foods that are basic to the Mediterranean diet: more than 85 % of the products sold by the SOS Group (principally olive oil and rice) are found in the pyramid of the Mediterranean diet, and their daily consumption is recommended.
The preoccupation to maintain a healthy diet has favoured the significant international increase of the products found in the pyramid of the Mediterranean diet. The Mediterranean diet is the most highly appreciated gastronomical tradition due to the richness and variety of its content, and it relies upon olive oil among its basic pillars. This is a source of health and life, with proven benefits for the consumer’s health:

- it decreases the risk of heart attacks
- it reduces the probabilities of arterial thromboses
- it decreases gastric acidity
- it provides protection against ulcers and gastritis
- it stimulates bile secretion
- it regulates intestinal passage
- it benefits bone tissue growth and allows bone mineralization
- it prevents the effects of age on cerebral functions and the aging of tissues and organs.
The recommendation of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to consume two spoonfuls of olive oil daily spells out a new acknowledgement of the benefits of olive oil as a health food and confirms the growing world interest for health and the consumption of healthy fats.
In the SOS Group, we promote the development of R+D+i programmes relating nutrition to its influence on health. The development of Oleosan after years of research represents one example of this and one step more in the research and commitment of the SOS Group to quality in nutrition.
Oleosan is a high-oleic natural oil that does not contain trans fats. It is extracted from a combination of natural seeds, whose balanced fatty acid composition – rich in monounsaturates and low in saturated fats – has been shown to be beneficial to health, exceeding the recommendations of the World Health Organization.
Its properties and characteristics have been submitted to analysis by the Superior Council of Scientific Research (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, CSIC) and the conclusions of its study are clear: Oleosan increases “good” HDL cholesterol, decreases the levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol, helps to control weight, and defends our organism against possible infections and allergic reactions.
Our objective consists of continuing to work on uniting efforts and aligning strategies in order to offer our consumers healthy products that are adequate for their needs.
