Founded in Lucca, Tuscany, in 1865, Bertolli started exporting olive oil to the US 10years later in order to satisfy the demand Italians who had emigrated there; by the 1890’s a considerable business was built in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and a bit later in San Francisco, becoming “the olive oil of the Italians”. The export activity proceeded with great success, together with the growth in the Italian market. Today Bertolli olive oil, strong second brand in Italy, is distributed in 40 different countries and is by far the olive oil number 1 in the world.
